Stay Strong & Don’t Share Your Tasty Thanksgiving Table Treats
As families across the country begin preparing for next week’s Thanksgiving feasts, keep in mind that it’s never advisable to include your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (or any other breed, for that matter) in the forthcoming celebration of food, as hard as it is to refuse that adorable begging look!
More often than not, tidbits from the Thanksgiving table are far too fatty for your Cavalier’s digestive system and can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and even more damaging cases of pancreatitis. In addition, there are a number of human-foods that are toxic to dogs and should never be shared, such as onions (or anything prepared with them), avocados, grapes, nuts, chocolate, and peaches or plumbs (as the cyanide-filled pits can too easily be swallowed and lead to poisoning).
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniels breed is one that, like may toy dogs, can be susceptible to heart conditions and so it’s helpful and healthful to your Cavalier’s heart to maintain an ideal body weight … something that is more difficult when table scraps are shared. Not to mention how much easier it is on their joints when they aren’t carrying around an extra pound or two brought on by tasty treats from the holiday table!
Happy Thanksgiving from Gillcrest Cavaliers!!
